NORTH CANTON, OH: The Walsh University softball team hosted West Liberty University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1, losing both contests to fall to 8-18 overall. The Hilltoppers improved to 18-15 with the sweep.
In the first matchup, Walsh struggled to overcome an early deficit. West Liberty built a strong lead, scoring in the first inning and extending it with a double by Kayla Mancuso and an RBI triple from Jaden Conrad. Walsh responded in the second inning but couldn't catch up despite a late push in the seventh. Madison Angus (5-6) earned the win for West Liberty, while Lindsey Leeds (0-3) took the loss for Walsh.
In the second contest, West Liberty used a big third inning and a strong pitching performance from Leah Alford to claim a 4-2 victory. The Hilltoppers struck first in the third inning, putting up four runs to take control. Walsh attempted to mount a comeback in the later innings, scoring runs in the fifth and sixth, but couldn't overcome the deficit. Leah Alford pitched a complete game for West Liberty, allowing just four hits, while Katie Gardner (1-1) took the loss for Walsh.
