BASEBALL TRAVELS TO SLIPPERY ROCK

SLIPPERY ROCK, PA : The Walsh University baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision to Slippery Rock University on Tuesday afternoon at Critchfield Park, falling to 9-19 on the season while The Rock improved to 18-11.

The Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead with a pair of first-inning runs. Brodey Acres tripled and scored on Cam Hollobaugh's RBI grounder that was mishandled by the third baseman. Eli Sutton followed with a single to plate Hollobaugh for a 2-0 advantage.

After Slippery Rock cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first, Walsh extended its lead to 3-1 in the second when Josh Algarin's RBI groundout scored Brandon Hire.

The tide turned in the fourth inning when The Rock sent nine batters to the plate, scoring five runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batter. Andrew Frye delivered the big blow with a two-run single, while Gage Gillott and Treston Nemeth added RBI to give Slippery Rock a 6-3 lead.

Walsh's Eli Sutton launched a solo homer in the sixth to pull within 7-4, and added an RBI single in the seventh to make it 7-5. But Slippery Rock answered with an insurance run in the bottom half of the frame.
