CAVS ROLL IN 2025 OPENER

NORTH CANTON, OH: Football season is finally here and the Walsh University Cavaliers Football team was ready to get the season underway at Larry Staudt Field. Rain did not hold a near record crowd back as Cavalier Nation packed the stands off of East Maple Street. The Maroon and Gold of Walsh Football were also not held back as they rolled to a 38-10 victory over the West Liberty University Hilltoppers.

The opening match up was familiar to both squads as Walsh and West Liberty have started the seasons against each other four out of the past five years. The Cavaliers have been on the side of victory in all four contests.

The home team saw a mix of some new and old faces, each one contributing in key ways. Starting Quarterback, Hayden Wickard, was polished, throwing three touchdown passes with 223 total passing yards. Wickard also spread the wealth with his receiving core, connecting with nine different Cavs. On the ground, four Cavs pounded through the Hilltopper defense with Jake Gill leading the way with 96 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, the Walsh defense forced three turnovers and only gave up three points until a last quarter TD drive by the visiting team. Michael Howman Williams totaled six take downs with one fumble recovery. Jerijah Moore and Jajuan Jackson each had an interception at key moments halting Hilltopper drives.

Walsh will take the Week 0 victory and recharge for their Week 1 contest at Wheeling next Saturday. The Cavs will look to redeem themselves from the tough loss at home, vs the Cardinals, last season. The game is set for 6pm in Wheeling, West Virginia.
