NORTH CANTON, OH: The 20th ranked Walsh Men's Basketball team had a close call inside Alumni Arena on Thursday evening. After a gritty first half by both teams, the Maroon and Gold built a lead, as much as 17 points, with ten minutes to go in the Great Midwest battle. That lead quickly crumbled as the Saints from Thomas More stormed back, looking to earn the upset victory.
An 8-0 run by Thomas More didn't help Walsh as the momentum quickly shifted to the visiting team. With 2:43 to go, Walsh held a three point lead. Key makes from
Kobe Mitchell and
Brayden Gross kept the Cavs keep command down the final stretch. Mitchell officially sealed the seventh straight win with 2 made foul shots with four tenths of a second left. The four point win was the Men's closest game since November 15th when they beat UPR Bayamon, 77-75.
Despite struggles from behind the three point line, Walsh owned the paint, outscoring the Saints 46-26. The Cavs also capitalized on the defensive end converting 25 points off turnovers.
The Men will return to Alumni Arena on Saturday at 3pm.
