Game Recap: Baseball |

CAV BASEBALL WINS FIRST SERIES OF THE SEASON

MORGANTOWN, WV: Baseball season is officially underway for the Walsh Cavaliers. The reigning G-MAC South Division Champions opened their 2026 campaign against the Fairmont State Falcons. The Falcons made the 2025 NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament. With seven inning doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, Walsh won the series, winning the first three contests.

The opening game saw an offensive explosion for the Cavs as they scored 17 runs on 15 hits. The scoring was consistent and often as Walsh crossed the plate in all but one inning. Game one starter, Nick Petro earned his first win of the year pitching 5 innings, scattering four hits.

Game two saw a comeback from the Maroon and Gold. Down 3-2 at the top of the 7th, clutch offensive schemes and timely hitting allowed Walsh to score 2 runs in the 7th to take a 4-3 lead. Marshall Shepherd earned the save in his first debut of the year.

Game three was much like the second except Walsh led and capitalized when they needed to. Runs in the 3rd, 5th, and 7th helped secure the series clinching victory. Freshman, Sam Yoder, earned his first career win in 4.2 innings. He scattered two hits and allowed just one run.

Game four resulted in a tough loss for the Cavs. Down 8-0 early, the team slowly clawed back scoring meaningful runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. In the top of the 7th, Walsh took a 12-10 lead but a quick 2 run homer by Fairmont in the bottom of the inning sucked the battling life out of Walsh. The Falcons hit a walk off single of Marshall Shepherd to win the final game of the weekend.

The Cavs will return to the field, vs Frostburg State on Friday, 2/27. Walsh will play three games against various teams throughout the weekend. The games will be played in Morgantown and Salem, West Virginia.
