CHARLESTON, WV AND NORTH CANTON, OH: The 2026 Women's Lacrosse season got underway on Sunday as the Cavaliers traveled to the University of Charleston. On a cold and blustery day along the river, Walsh fell to Charleston for the first time since 2018. Walsh had won 4 straight. Charleston held command from the beginning, scoring 5 straight goals to start the game. Once the Maroon and Gold settled in, they cut the deficit to 2 goals at 6-4, the closest they would get. After some back and fourth scoring, Charleston rattled off another 5 goals to end the third quarter and start the fourth. From there the gap was too big to fill as Walsh lost, 17-9.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Women looked to bounce back, hosting the home opener vs the Daemen Wildcats. Fans saw a tight game, knotted up at 4 through one half of play. The third quarter was all Wildcats as they outscored Walsh, 8-3. Losing 12-7 after three quarters, the Cavs were determined to comeback. Down 3 goals with 4:25 to play, the Women got within one with just under a minute remaining. A late yellow card on Walsh and a quick turnover seled the contest with Daemen coming out on top.
Walsh will return to Larry Staudt Field on Friday at 5pm when the take on #2 University of Indianapolis.
