3/27/2026 12:06:00 PM

HAMMOND, IN, ST. PETERSBURG, FL, AND NORTH CANTON, OH: Walsh Men's and Women's Tennis has continued with their strong play throughout this spring. As the second weekend of conference play is about to get underway, the Men are 6-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Women sit at 7-6 and 2-0 in the G-MAC.

VS PURDUE NORTHWEST
The men's team had a tough and highly competitive start, with all three doubles matches lasting nearly an hour — featuring multiple breaks from both sides. Ross Trias won at No. 1 singles, and Nicolas Stroehle claimed a three-set victory at No. 3: 6–4, 6–7(3), 6–2. The men fell, 5-2.

The women won all three doubles matches for the first time this season, despite being down 4–3 on all three courts at once. Lina Starke demonstrated control and consistency in her singles to secure a point with a 6–2, 6–4 win. Olesya Inaschuck earned her first victory of the season with an outstanding performance, winning 6–3, 6–4. The women's team closed the day with a decisive 4–3 win, with Liv-Grete Laarmann clinching the match at No. 5 singles.

VS FAIRMONT STATE

The women started strong with two doubles victories at #1 and #2. Olesya Ivaschuck and Taira Abildayeva won 6/2 without losing a single game on serve. Later in singles play, all courts had a challenging start, but the women fought back. Aleksandra Chmir secured a point at #3 with a 6/4, 6/3 win, and Lina Starke delivered a momentum-shifting point by winning a gritty three-set match at #2: 2-6, 6-3, 10-2. Women's Tennis closed the day with a confident 6–1 victory — a satisfying response after last year's loss.

Men's Tennis battled until the end but fell in a tight contest. Ross Trias came back after trailing 2/5 in the first set and secured a valuable point for the team. Lukas Kohler, at No. 4, pushed to the limit but ultimately fell in a demanding match, 3-6, 5-7. Ethan Miligan responded with poise at #5, rallying to claim a confident 6/3, 6-4 victory. The rest of the team was defeated in tightly contested three-set battles, losing 4-3.

VS THOMAS MORE AND KENTUCKY WESLEYAN

Ethan Milgan had a tough match against Thomas More at #5 but was able to finish in two sets: 6-4, 7-6(5). Kian Balali performed well at #6, closing out the overall match with a 7-5, 6-0 win. Fedor Kuznetsov battled through at #6 against Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday, winning 7-6(4), 6-3. The men's team did not drop a single point over the weekend, finishing 7-0 against both opponents.

The women delivered convincing doubles wins on every court both days. Olesya Ivaschuck powered through commanding victories at #5: 6-0, 6-1 against Thomas More and 6-0, 6-0 against Kentucky. Lina Starke earned a hard-fought win after a back-and-forth battle at #1 against Thomas More: 7-6(3), 7-6(3).

The Cavs closed with a decisive 6-1 win against Thomas More and 7-0 against Kentucky.

Lina Starke and Nicolas Stroehle were named Cleveland Clinic's Athlete of the Week.
