MIDLAND, MI: Cavalier Men's Soccer fell 3-2 to Northwood University on Saturday afternoon. Walsh started quickly when Filip Samardzic scored in the third minute to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. Northwood answered in the 19th minute tieing the game at 1. The Timberwolves then took the lead in the 27th minute, giving Northwood a 2-1 advantage at halftime.
Northwood created more chances throughout the game, out shooting Walsh 19-9 overall and 10-4 in shots on goal. Northwood also held an 8-4 advantage in shots during the first half and added 11 more shots after halftime. Even with fewer shots, Walsh continued to create pressure and finished with a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Cavaliers found the equalizer in the 79th minute when Aleksandar Miketic converted a penalty kick to make the score 2-2. Northwood responded in the 86th minute to put the Timberwolves back in front, 3-2.
Walsh pushed for another goal in the final minutes, but Northwood was able to hold the lead. Nick Bertolini played all 90 minutes in goal for Walsh and recorded seven saves.
The Cavaliers will return home for their next match on Thursday, September 17th, against Ashland University at 6:00 p.m.
