MIDLAND, MI: Walsh University Women's Soccer fell 1-0 to Northwood University on Saturday in their first road game of G-MAC play. The Cavaliers created several chances and outshot Northwood, but a first-half penalty kick proved to be the difference.
Walsh came out attacking early, with Kate Young hitting the crossbar less than two minutes into the game. Paityn Marino followed with two shots on goal, while Young and Jamie Duskey also tested Northwood goalkeeper Lindsay Jacob. Despite Walsh's early pressure, Northwood took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when Ashtyn Lange converted a penalty kick.
The Cavaliers kept creating chances after halftime. Walsh recorded nine shots in the second half and forced Northwood's goalkeeper to make five more saves. Hannah Hopek, Taylor Baier, Kailey Hobart, and Maddie Benner all put shots on goal as Walsh searched for the equalizer.
Walsh finished the game with a 16-9 advantage in total shots and a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Northwood goalkeeper Lindsay Jacob made nine saves to keep the Cavaliers off the scoreboard. Northwood held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Maroon and Gold will travel to Painesville, Ohio for their next match on Thursday, September 17th, taking on Lake Erie College at 5:00 p.m.
