NORTH CANTON AND PAINESVILLE, OH: Despite a 1-0 loss vs the Lake Erie College Storm on Thursday, Walsh Women's Soccer bounced back on Saturday to earn a thrilling 4-3 victory over Tiffin.
On Thursday, Lake Erie snuck in a goal in the 17th minute. Despite a strong second half, the Maroon and Gold could not find the back of the net. Walsh had 13 shots in the second half, while Lake Erie did not record a shot after halftime.
Taylor Baier nearly tied the game when her shot hit the post, and
Jamie Duskey hit the crossbar late in the match. Walsh finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots.
On Saturday, for Maroon and Gold Weekend, the Women gave the packed crowd a game. After neither team scored in the first half, all seven goals came after halftime, including the game-winner for the Cavs in the final minute.
The scoring started in the 61st minute when Lyla Maher scored off an assist from Maddie Benner to give Walsh a 1-0 lead. Tiffin answered less than a minute later when Mackenzie Borden tied the game at 1-1.
Walsh took control again late in the second half. Katie Norris scored in the 81st minute off an assist from Paityn Marino to make it 2-1. Norris scored again just over two minutes later, giving the Cavaliers a 3-1 advantage.
Tiffin did not go away easy scoring in the 86th and 89th minutes to tie the game at 3-3. With only 21 seconds remaining, Jamie Duskey found the back of the net to give Walsh the 4-3 lead and the win.
The Cavaliers will stay home for their next match on Thursday, September 24th, at 3:00 p.m., when they take on Ursuline College at Larry Staudt Field.
