UNIVERSITY CENTER AND BIG RAPIDS, MI: Walsh University Women's Soccer traveled to Michigan for a pair of road matches, taking on Saginaw Valley State on Friday before facing Ferris State on Sunday. The result of both contests were not in favor of the Maroon and Gold as they were shut out by both GLIAC teams.
The Cavaliers opened the weekend against Saginaw Valley State, falling 5-0. Saginaw Valley scored twice in the opening 14 minutes and added another goal in the 32nd minute to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.Walsh continued to battle in the second half and created more opportunities, but Saginaw Valley added two more goals to finish the match. The Cavaliers ended the game with 12 total shots, including six on goal, and earned four corner kicks.
O'Malley Quinlan played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves.
The Women returned to action Sunday against Ferris State. The Bulldogs scored once in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break. The Cavs looked to respond in the second half, but Ferris State added three more goals to finish the game with a 4-0 victory. Walsh recorded eight shots against Ferris State, with four of those attempts coming on goal. Quinlan finished with six saves in goal.
The Cavs will return home on Thursday, September 10th as they open G-MAC play vs Ohio Dominican University at 3pm. The Women currently sit at 1-2 on the season.
