Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh was dealt another loss on the hardwood at the hands of Michigan Tech by a score of 82-65 to close out the opening weekend of conference play. The Cavaliers drop to 5-2 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC. The Huskies remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
A cold first half hurt the Cavs as they shot just 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from the field as Tech led from start to finish. The Huskies' height proved to be somewhat of a problem for Walsh as six of the visitor's eight blocks came in the first half. At the break, Michigan Tech led by a 37-25 margin.
In the second half, Walsh shot the ball much better and as a Jalynn Graham (5-5, So., Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) jumper and a Kelsey Funderburgh (5-7, Jr., North Lewisburg, OH/Triad) 3-pointer sparked an 11-4 run that made the score 41-36 with 15:22 to play. Michigan Tech immediately pushed its lead by to 12 points before another Funderburgh 3-pointer cut the deficit to single digits once again. It was the closest the Cavs could get the rest of the way as the Huskies led by as many as 19.
Funderburgh finished with a game-high 24 points on 6-of-16 from the field and was 50 percent from behind the arc with four 3-pointers. Graham finished with 12 points and Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) tallied 11 points. Graham was also strong defensively with five steals.
The Huskies were paced by Kelli Guy who came off the bench to score 20 points. She was 6-of-9 from the field and 5-of-8 on 3-pointers. As a team, Tech sank 11 treys.
The Cavs are now on the road for three-straight games to close out the calendar year. First up is a trip to Northwood on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Walsh will then head to Lake Superior State on Saturday before a non-conference clash with St. Joseph's College on Wednesday, Dec. 17.
