Lake Erie Stumps Cavs In Twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Lake Erie swept Walsh in a pair of close games by scores of 3-1 and 2-1 on a chilly Wednesday afternoon doubleheader. The Cavaliers drop to 17-20 overall and are now under .500 in the GLIAC with a record of 9-10. The Storm improve to 20-14 overall and are 14-7 in the conference.

The Cavs trailed the entire game in the opener as Lake Erie scored in the top of the first and added another pair in the third. Walsh's offense eventually started to generate some momentum in the final two innings as the Cavs recorded four of their six hits during that time.

Walsh had trouble getting runners across the plate, however, as it left three runners stranded in the sixth. The Cavs' lone run came in the seventh when Jordan Shank (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) singled to right center to score Jason McPeek (So., Stow, OH/Munroe-Falls/Akron), who reached on a double to left center. Shank finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate.

Matt Iosue (Fr., Mayfield, OH/HS) took the loss despite a fine effort where he pitched a complete game. He gave up only one earned run on six hits while he struck out eight batters to fall to 2-6 on the season.

The nightcap was also tough on the Cavaliers as they gave up two runs in the sixth to fall 2-1. Walsh initially took the lead in the first inning when Brook Clark (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) picked up an RBI on a bases-loaded ground out to second that scored Drew Link (Sr., Granville, OH/HS).

The Cavs again received excellent pitching, this time from Danny Roper (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) who took a no-hitter into the sixth. He gave up only three hits on the day.

Walsh is off tomorrow before traveling to Michigan to take on Saginaw Valley in an Easter weekend series with a doubleheader on Good Friday.
