Box Score 2 (UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.) - Walsh (18-21, 10-11) split a GLIAC double header at Saginaw Valley University today (10-20, 7-13). The Cavs fell 7-6 in ten innings in game one, but rebounded to win the nightcap 4-2. The rubber game of the series is at noon tomorrow.
The Cardinals rallied from a 6-2 deficit to win game one 7-6 in ten innings. Five Walsh errors, and a costly passed ball led to four unearned runs for Saginaw. Walsh scored three runs in the third and fourth innings and led 6-2 after four. Drew Link (Sr., Granville, OH/HS) went 3-5, and Mike Lee (Sr., Barberton, OH/HS) drove in two runs. Jordan Shank (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Jason McPeek (So., Stow, OH/HS/University of Akron), Sam Fondriest (Sr., Dover, OH/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and Jake Palidar (Sr., Wadsworth, OH/HS/Marietta) each had two hits, as Walsh banged out 15 hits. Saginaw rallied with runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. They scored the tying run on a passed ball with two outs in the seventh. Neal Edwards (Jr., Silver Lake, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) was tagged with the loss in relief and falls to 3-1.
Joe Tann (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) went six strong innings in game two to even his record at 3-3. Tann allowed six runs on six hits, while fanning four. Donnie Macko (Jr., Clinton, OH/Northwest/Wheeling Jesuit) worked the seventh to pick-up his first save of the season, Walsh scored single runs in the second and third innings and led 2-1 after three. Link doubled to right-center to drive in two runs to give Walsh a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning. The Cardinals would add a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Shank and Fondriest each drove in a run, and Luke Caple (Fr., Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) had two hits and scored two runs.
Walsh is in seventh place in the GLIAC, but are just one game behind Ohio Dominican, Tiffin and Malone.
