Walsh Weathers Storm At Home Away From Home

Box Score

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - A dominating second half erased a double-digit first half deficit and carried Walsh to a 52-39 victory over Lake Erie College on Saturday afternoon. With this win over the Storm (7-9, 2-8), the Cavaliers (12-4, 6-4) have now won all four regular season games on Lake Erie's home court after winning the first three games of the season there.

A poor first half saw Walsh trail by as many as 13. The Cavs' offense turned the ball over 16 times which led to 16 Storm points as the hosts led 30-20 at the break.

The second half was a drastically different story.

The entire 20 minutes was one big run as the Cavs' outscored the Storm 32-9. Jalynn Graham (5-5, So., Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) opened the half with a 3-pointer which was followed by baskets by Brooklyn Wooten (5-8, So., Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) and Whitney Dabbelt (6-0, Sr., West Carrollton, OH/Archbishop Alter) to bring Walsh within a single possession. That made the score 30-27 just over a couple of minutes after the start of the half.

Walsh eventually took the lead on a trey by Alex Hochstedler (5-9, Fr., Fishers, IN/HS) which made the score 34-32 with 13:18 left. Lake Erie regained the led on a free throw and layup, but it was the last time the Storm was in front as Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) stole the ball and drove in for a fast break layup to put the Cavs up for good at 36-35 with 8:21 to go in the game.

It was one of eight steals in the half for the Cavs. Lake Erie turned the ball over an additional three times in the second period and had 24 for the game. In the mean time, Walsh's offense regained composure and made only four turnovers during the last 20 minutes.

Lake Erie had major difficulties scoring as it shot just 10.7 percent (3-for-28) in the second half after it made 40 percent of its shots in the first.

Graham was strong in the second half as she scored all of her game-high 12 points in the second half. She was 5-of-8 for the game and only missed two shots in the second half. She added five rebounds and fives steals to her line as well.

The Storm failed to have a player reach double-figures.

Walsh has now won three-straight and seven of its last eight games. The Cavs will look to keep their small streak going when they travel to Columbus this Thursday to take on Ohio Dominican. Tip-off with the Panthers is set for 5:30 p.m.
