Box Score (COLUMBUS, Ohio) - It was a difficult night in the capital for the Cavaliers as Walsh fell to Ohio Dominican 79-67 in Alumni Hall to open up the weekend competition. The Cavs (12-5, 6-5) were on a three-game win streak before being upset by the Panthers (5-12, 2-9).
The Cavs had things going their way for the first five minutes and led 8-4 after a Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) layup with 14:41 to go in the opening half, but an 11-0 ODU run gave the hosts a lead they didn't relinquish the rest of the game.
The Panthers kept the momentum rolling in its favor and eventually led by 16 after a Tori Beth Leader trey at the 5:55 mark in the first half. It was their largest lead up to that point in the game and only was surpassed when Ohio Dominican went up 17 after a pair of free throws made the score 44-27 with 17 minutes left in the game.
Still, Walsh refused to give up and cut the deficit back down to single digits. Jalynn Graham (5-5, So., Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) put the score at 59-51 after a free throw with 4:48 to go, but it was the closest the Cavs could get the rest of the way as ODU pushed the lead back to double digits on its next possession.
Graham had a stellar game with a double-double as she scored 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, both game-highs. Clopton finished with 13 points and Audrey Badovick (5-5, Sr., Norwalk, OH/St. Paul) scored 10 off the bench.
Overall, the Cavs out-rebounded Ohio Dominincan 51-44, but poor shooting hurt Walsh as it shot 33.3 percent for the game and 28.9 percent for the first half.
Four Panthers reached double figures with Kacee Hockenberry as the frontrunner with 17.
The Cavs will look to regroup as they return to Alumni Arena to take on Tiffin this Saturday. Tip-off with the Dragons is set for 12 p.m.
