Box Score (COLUMBUS, Ohio) - Walsh is once again over .500 after an exciting 75-68 victory over Ohio Dominican in Alumni Hall Thursday evening. The Cavaliers (8-7, 4-7) have now won three-straight with and remain unbeaten in the South Division. The Panthers drop to 5-11 overall and 3-8 in the GLIAC.
With Zac Carter's (5-9, So., Ironton, OH/HS) layup to start the second half, Walsh took a 34-24 advantage, its largest of the night. From there, the Panthers started a ferocious rally to get back in the game and eventually took the lead on a Jordan Cowgill layup. That made the score 42-40 with 12:30 left in the game. While ODU had the momentum, Carter was just getting started.
From there, the game was back-and-forth until the 3:15 mark when the Cavs made their push. The score was 65-61 after a Panthers layup, but Carter scored one of his own and was fouled on the play. He went on to make the free throw and make it a one-point game.
At that time, Jesse Hardin Jr. (6-2, Jr., Warren, OH/Harding) went to work as he scored the next eight points in the game to give Walsh a 72-65 lead with 1:02 to play. ODU answered with a 3-pointer, but it was the last points the Panthers scored as the Cavs closed out the contest with a pair of free throws by Carter and another by Hardin Jr.
Carter finished with a career-best 27 points as he exploded and made 9-of-13 from the field with four 3-pointers. Of those 27, 19 were scored in the second half. Hardin Jr. added 15 points, all of which were scored in the second half, and was a rebound away from a double-double.
Chad Nelson paced the Panthers with 18 points.
Carter has now scored or tied a career high in points in his last three games.
The Cavs will look to build upon their three-game win streak against Tiffin on Saturday. Tip-off against the Dragons is set for 2 p.m. A special presentation of the 2004-05 National Championship team will take place at halftime to honor the 10th Anniversary.
