Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A total team effort on both ends of the floor helped Walsh win its fourth consecutive game with an 82-65 victory over Saginaw Valley State on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 9-3 overall and are even at 3-3 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals drop to 5-7 and are winless in six conference games.
A hot first half helped Walsh take control of the game as it shot 58.1 percent as it made 18-of-31 attempts from the field. A Brittni Clopton (5-11, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/South Side) jumper gave the Cavs their first double-digit lead at 36-25 with 5:25 left in the first half. It was a part of a 12-0 Walsh run as it took its largest lead of the game at 43-25 after an Allison Butler (5-5, Fr., Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) 3-pointer with 3:36 to go in the opening stanza.
The Cardinals didn't quit and answered with a 10-0 run of its own and trailed 45-35 at the half. SVSU cut the deficit to 51-43 after a 3-pointer by Danielle Carriere with 16:12 to go in the second half, but Walsh led by double-digits the rest of the way.
Brooklyn Wooten (5-8, So., Grove City, OH/Central Crossing) led the Cavs as she was a point shy of tying her career-high with 18 points as she was 7-of-12 from the floor. She also added three assists and two steals. Kelsey Funderburgh (5-7, Jr., North Lewisburg, OH/Triad) wasn't far behind as she scored 15.
Clopton finished with 10 points and was a force all over the court as she pulled down eight rebounds, assisted on three baskets, blocked three shots, and made three steals. Jalynn Graham (5-5, So., Columbus, OH/Central Crossing) was the other Cavs' player to reach double figures with 12 points.
Walsh hits the road for its next two games to close out its games against the Northern Division. They'll travel to Grand Valley State on Thursday. Tip-off against the Lakers is set for 6 p.m.
