Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's s soccer team did something only one other team has done all season. That was limiting No. 3 Grand Valley State to one goal. Unfortunately for the Cavaliers, it was all the Lakers needed to stay undefeated in the GLIAC with a 1-0 decision.
The only other team to limit the Lakers offense as much was Quincy in a 3-0 win at the beginning of the season for the Lakers (15-1, 11-0) only loss. The Cavaliers dropped to 5-7-3 overall and 3-6-1 in the GLIAC as they search for a second-straight GLIAC tournament appearance.
The only goal came in the 57th minute when Marti Corby, a national player of the year candidate, scored her 19th goal and 50th point of the season with a hard shot from the right side of the box to the upper left 90.
Other than that, Walsh's defense stayed strong despite Grand Valley holding 23-5 advantage on shots.
Michaella Stucky made 11 saves on the day as the Lakers had 12 shots on goal. Corby had eight shots in total, three of which were on goal.
Walsh's only shot on target was by Emily Durina early in the first half, but the Lakers' keeper Emily Maresh was there for the save.
With this being the Cavs' final home game, they find themselves on the road for the final two games in hopes of securing a conference tournament bid. First up is a trip to Tiffin to take on the Dragons on Sunday at 3 p.m. Walsh closes out the regular season at its rival Malone a week from today at 12:30 p.m.
