Box Score 2 (MIDLAND, Mich.) Walsh (15-15, 8-8) lost both ends of a GLIAC double header to Northwood University (19-13, 12-4) today by the scores of 9-3 and 7-4. The Cavs and Timberwolves play a twin bill tomorrow with the first game at 12 pm. The Cavs have lost five of their last six games.
With the help of four walks and an error in the first inning, Northwood scored four times off of Walsh starter, and loser, Matt Iosue (So., Mayfield, OH / HS) in the opener. Iosue (2-2) was touched for five runs, two earned in three innings. The Timberwolves added four runs in the fourth inning to lead 9-3, after the Cavs scored twice in the top of the inning to trail 5-3. Austin Szink (R-So., Canton, OH / Jackson) and Andrew Stalnaker (So., Canton, OH / Jackson) each had two hits and Jason McPeek (Jr., Stow, OH / Munroe Falls) hit a two-run homer.
Walsh scored twice in the first inning of the nightcap, and led 4-1 going to the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke Caple (So., Naples, FL / Gulf Coast) doubled in two runs in the first inning and the Cavs tallied two more in the fourth on wild pitch and ground ball.
Two Walsh errors led to two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull Northwood to within a run at 4-3. The Timberwolves then tied the game with a single run in the sixth, and scored two runs in the seventh to take the lead, and then added their final run in the eighth. Walsh committed four errors.
Szink was 3-5 and Stalnaker was 2-4. James Thomas (So., Columbus, OH / Newark Catholic) was 3-4.
Joe Tann (Sr., Canton, OH / Central Catholic) started and went five innings. He fanned seven and allowed three runs, but only one earned run. Joe Pourier (So., Newark, OH / Newark Catholic) came on in the sixth and was charged with the loss.
