Box Score 2 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Malone University (21-115, 12-8) swept Walsh (15-19, 8-12) by the scores of 10-3 and 6-2 in a key GLIAC South Division double header today. The Cavs, who have lost six straight games, and nine of their last ten look to right the ship at division leading Ashland University on Saturday and Sunday in a pair of GLIAC double headers.
Malone scored in bunches in the opener, tallying four runs in the third inning, three in the fourth and three more in the sixth. After Walsh fell behind 4-0 in the third, they bounced back with two runs on a two-run single from Andrew Bonnette (Sr., Tallmadge, OH / HS) in the bottom of the inning. The Cavs final run came on a sacrifice fly from Tyson Lautanen (So., Painesville, OH / Fairport Harbor / Eastern Kentucky) in the fourth. Walsh starting pitcher Brandon Whitslar (Sr., Seville, OH / Cloverleaf) took the loss and falls to 3-2.
The Cavs took a 1-0 lead in game two on a one out single from James Thomas (So., Alliance, OH / Marlington) in the second inning. Malone would score three times in the fourth to lead 3-1, a lead they held until the eighth inning when Luke Caple's (So., Naples, FL / Gulf Coast) one out single cut the lead to 3-2. Malone would answer with three runs in the ninth to salt away the sweep. Caple and Andrew Stalnaker (So., Canton, OH / Jackson) each had two hits for the Cavs. Walsh starter Seth Robinson (Jr., Uniontown OH / Springfield) took the loss and is now 1-2.
