Box Score (ALLENDALE, Mich.) – A late second half goal ended Walsh's season as it fell to Michigan Tech by a 1-0 score in the GLIAC Tournament semifinals at Grand Valley State on Friday evening. The Cavaliers end the year at 10-6-4 while the Huskies move on to Sunday's final with a 12-3-3 mark.
It was a rubber match of sorts for No. 7 Walsh and No. 3 Michigan Tech as the defensive-minded teams fought to a scoreless draw in their previous meeting back on October 16 in North Canton. It appeared to be heading that way again this time around with both squads scoreless through 70 minutes.
However, the Huskies' Jacqueline Mielke found the back of the net on a shot from the left side of the goal from about 10 feet out just into the 74th minute.
Walsh had one last opportunity to equalize after a foul on Michigan Tech put Walsh within striking distance in the 88th minute, but Amy Gilmore's shot was saved by the Huskies' Kirsen Hudak.
Overall shots were even at 13-13 with Tech holding the advantage in corner kicks at 5-2.
Dani Shambaugh played another solid game between the pipes with six saves.
