Box Score (WESTFIELD, Ind.) – Walsh fell in a defensive battle by a 1-0 score to Drury in its first game of the Inaugural Midwest Region Crossover Baseball Showcase at Grand Park. The Cavaliers fall to 8-9 on the year while the Panthers improve to 6-12.
The lone run came in the top of the ninth as Drury led off the frame with a walk and used a pinch runner to circle the rest of the way around the bases after a throw went wide when the runner advanced to third.
The Cavs had an opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth as Johnny Knight IV and Tyson Lautanen reached on a pair of base hits, but they were left stranded as the game ended.
Matt Iosue started the game and was impressive as he threw seven shutout innings with five strikeouts in the no decision. Ryan McSweeney took the tough luck loss to fall to 1-2 on the season.
The teams combined for 15 hits with Walsh contributing seven of them. Knight IV, Lautanen and Brook Clark all had multiple-hit days. Jason McPeek recorded the other with a double.
