Walsh Splits Twin Bill With Tiffin, Takes Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh split a doubleheader with Tiffin with an 8-3 loss in the opener before a 9-1 win in the nightcap in GLIAC action Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (12-12, 3-1) won the weekend series against the Dragons (8-12, 1-3) after a sweep in yesterday's twin bill.

The Dragons struck first in the final game with their only run scored in the second inning. The lead didn't last long as Andrew Stalnaker singled up the middle to score Luke Caple in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game. Austin Szink followed with a two-run home run to left field to bring in Stalnaker and put the Cavs up 3-1. It was his third homer of the season.

Caple later brought in Jason McPeek on a single through the right side in the bottom of the fourth. Johnny Knight IV homered to left field in the fifth to make the score 5-1.

Walsh wasn't done as it plated three in the seventh. Jerad Kitlzer took a bases loaded walk to bring in Szink for the first run before James Thomas hit a sac fly to right field to score Knight IV. McPeek closed the inning with an RBI on a fielder's choice that scored Brook Clark.

Jordan Grubb added the final run as he snuck one through the left side to score Stalnaker in the eighth inning.

Logan Bowles earned the win as he pitched a gem to improve to 3-0. He allowed the one run on seven hits with six strikeouts against three walks in 6.2 innings of work. Mark Mittiga came on in relief and allowed just one hit the rest of the way.

In the opener, Walsh held a 3-1 lead after four innings, but Tiffin rallied with seven runs over the last three frames to take the 8-3 win.

Walsh will be back in action in another four-game home series against Findlay next weekend. Doubleheaders with the Oilers are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
