Box Score (ASHLAND, Ohio) – Walsh's hopes of upsetting No. 5 and top-seeded Ashland a second time this season came up just short as it fell 68-59 in the GLIAC semifinals Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers fall to 20-9 while the Eagles improve to 28-1.
The Cavaliers played well defensively and held the GLIAC's top shooting team to almost 10 percentage points below its normal. However, the Eagles went on a 20-5 run down the stretch to set up the final score.
Brooklyn Wooten (Jr., Grove City, Ohio/Central Crossing) provided an offensive spark early with eight first quarter points and a pair of 3-pointers. She led the team with 15 points and was 6-of-14 from the field. She added six rebounds and five assists.
Jalynn Graham (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Central Crossing) added 13 for the Cavaliers and was a rebound shy of her second double-double of the season. Kelsey Funderburgh (Sr., North Lewisburg, Ohio/Triad) was the final Cavalier in double-figures with 10 points. She added a pair of 3-pointers to give her nine for the tournament, one shy of tying the individual tournament record.
Walsh carried a five-point lead into the fourth quarter and held a 54-48 lead after Wooten scored on a layup with 6:32 left in the game. After an Ashland timeout, the Eagles scored the next eight points to start their aforementioned run and take the lead.
After Graham and Ashland's Andi Daugherty exchanged layups, Funderburgh scored a 3-pointer to give Walsh its final lead at 59-58 with 3:09 to go. The Eagles regained the lead on their next possession on a pair of free throws and made eight more the rest of the way for their final points.
