Box Score 2 (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Walsh suffered a sweep at the hands of Lake Erie in a make-up twin bill Tuesday in GLIAC action. The teams were originally scheduled for a four-game series over the weekend which was postponed because of inclement weather.
In the opening game, the Cavaliers (14-14, 5-3) initially took a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run home run to center field by Luke Caple in the top of the first, but the Storm (9-16, 5-5) came back with a four-run sixth to take the win.
Brandon Whitslar had another strong start, but did not pick up the decision. He allowed just one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Ryan McSweeney took the loss to fall to 2-3.
In the second game, the Cavaliers scored solo runs in the first and second for an early 2-0 lead once again, but the Storm responded with big innings in the third and fourth to take a 10-3 lead and held on for a 10-4 win.
Reigning GLIAC Player of the Week Andrew Stalnaker put the Cavaliers on the scoreboard first with a double down the left field line that plated Caple for an RBI. Johnny Knight IV made it 2-0 when he scored after a failed pickoff attempt that allowed Jordan Grubb to reach second.
After the Storm came back and made the score 6-2, Grubb singled through the left side to score Brook Clark, but Lake Erie added four more runs in the fourth. Jason McPeek added Walsh's final run on a sacrifice fly that scored Knight IV.
Seth Robinson took the start in the nightcap and fell to 2-3 on the season.
The Cavaliers will return to action against long-time rival Malone tomorrow in another GLIAC twin bill. First pitch is scheduled for noon at Jackson High School in Massillon.
