Box Score 2 (ALLENDALE, Mich.) – In a battle between two of the top teams in the GLIAC, Walsh was swept by Grand Valley by scores of 7-3 and 4-3 on the road Sunday. The Cavaliers fell to 17-17 overall on the season and 8-6 within the conference. The Lakers improved to 19-11-1 overall and 10-4 in the GLIAC.
The Cavs looked poised to force another split with three runs in the top of the second in game two, but the Lakers slowly chipped away with solo runs in four of the next five innings. Eric Conner brought in Walsh's first run with a single up the middle to score Austin Szink. He later scored from third on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Jason McPeek tallied the final run when James Thomas scored on an infield single.
Walsh had opportunities to add more runs throughout the game, but left 10 runners on base.
In the opener, the Cavaliers rallied for a couple of runs to make the score 5-3 as the teams headed to the bottom of the sixth, but Grand Valley scored a pair of insurance runs to set up the final score.
Andrew Stalnaker provided most of the offense with two RBI on a pair of singles in the first and sixth.
Walsh will attempt to get back in the win column as they host rival Malone for a doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch with the Pioneers is set for 1 p.m.
