Box Score 2 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A day after recording the most runs, hits and RBI in a single game for the season, Walsh did it again with a 22-10 victory over Ashland in the final home game of the season. The win gave the Cavaliers (20-20, 11-9) a split with the Eagles (25-13, 16-4) on the day and in the series.
The entire starting lineup recorded at least one hit with five players recording multiple hit games and three players recording three-hit games. Overall, the Maroon and Gold scored 22 runs on 18 hits with 20 RBI.
Six of them came from Jason McPeek in a career day as he went out in style on Senior Day. With the score still tight at 12-10, McPeek drove a pitch over the left field wall to break the game open with a grand slam. Two batters later, Andrew Stalnaker, who had five RBI of his own, sailed one to right center for a two-run shot and put the Cavs up 18-10.
Unlike yesterday when Walsh found itself up 8-1 before the Eagles rallied to regain the lead, this lead was here to stay. Aidan Mlachak, who entered in relief at the start of the third inning, was able to shut down for the majority of the middle five innings. Aside from a three-run home run in the fourth by the Eagles that tied the game at 10-all, Mlachak shut down and shut out Ashland to pick up the win and improve to 2-1.
The fireworks weren't over as the Cavaliers followed up with four more runs in the eighth highlighted by Luke Caple's homer to left field. Austin Szink also went yard with a three-run bomb in the first to tie the game. The Cavs' four home runs tied a season best for a single game.
Overall, McPeek went 3-for-5 and was a triple shy of the cycle with two runs scored. Caple was 3-for-5with two RBI and four runs scored. Stalnaker pounded out four hits with two doubles and a home run for five RBI and three runs scored.
Brook Clark capped his final home appearance as a Cavalier with a hit and two runs scored. Fellow seniors Logan Bowles and Seth Robinson also made appearances on the mound. Robinson closed the game and allowed one hit over the last two innings pitched.
The opening game went to the Eagles by a score of 11-2. Ashland jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two before Walsh scored its first run in the third. The Eagles kept momentum on their side with seven runs over the fifth and sixth innings.
