Cavs Downed By Grand Valley, Preps for Playoffs

(ALLENDALE, Mich.) – Walsh wrapped up the regular season with a 6-3 defeat at Grand Valley State on Sunday. The Cavaliers qualified for the GLIAC tournament with a 4-5 conference mark and are 11-11 overall on the season. The Lakers finish the regular season at 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the GLIAC.

The Cavaliers went down 2-1 after doubles play with the lone point coming at the second spot with the duo of Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque. The pair took a lengthy match over the team of Jack Heiniger and Sebastien Lescoulie by a score of 9-8 with a 10-3 tiebreaker.

Cabezon was perfect on the day as he also secured a point in singles action where he defeated Lescoulie again at the three-spot. Lescoulie took the first set 6-4, but Cabezon rebounded to win the second set 6-3 and was up 2-0 before Lescoulie retired.

Vasiliy Vidmanov provided the other point at No. 1 singles. He went down after his opponent took the first set 6-4, but bounced back with a thrilling second set win by a score of 7-6 with an 11-9 tiebreaker. Vidmanov went on to win the third set in impressive 6-0 fashion.

Walsh now awaits the draw for next week's GLIAC Tournament at the Greater Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Michigan.
