Box Score 2 (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Before Tuesday's make-up twin bill with Findlay, Head Coach Tim Mead said Walsh would try and "play like crazy." Andrew Stalnaker figuratively took that to heart as hit three home runs in the Cavaliers' (14-12, 5-1) sweep of Findlay (8-12, 1-5) by scores of 4-0 and 8-3.
In total, Stalnaker went 4-for-5 from the plate on the day with six runs scored and five RBI. On top of that, Luke Caple and Austin Szink also went yard to give the Maroon and Gold five home runs on the day.
In the opening game, Matt Iosue and Tyson Lautanen combined for a one-hit shutout in a pitchers' duel. The lone hit came off of Iosue as he got the start and win. He struck out six and allowed just one other runner on a walk in six innings of work. Lautanen took the hill in the seventh and struck out two.
Findlay's pitcher Austin Rodesky also gave the Walsh batters problems, but the Cavaliers took advantage of a couple of errors to score runs in the second and fourth innings.
Stalnaker benefited the most from them. He scored the first run after Johnny Knight IV was safe at first after a throwing error by the shortstop. In the fourth, Stalnaker scored again after Knight IV singled to right center, but this time Stalnaker was the one who was safe as a result of an error two batters prior.
In Stalnaker's next at-bat, he added a couple of insurance runs on a direct deposit over the left field fence that also scored Luke Caple in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the second game, the Cavaliers took a 7-1 lead after a big seventh inning and held on for an 8-3 win. The inning was highlighted by a big three-run home run by Szink that scored Stalnaker and Caple. Stalnaker added another run earlier in the inning when a single up the middle plated Lautanen.
Stalnaker's second home run of the day tied the game in the fourth inning before he and Caple hit back-to-back homers in the fifth.
Jason McPeek's double down the left field line allowed Brook Clark to score from second for Walsh's final run in the eighth.
Joe Pourier was credited with the win after he came on in relief and pitched the fifth and sixth frames to go to 2-1 on the season. Logan Bowles started the game and struck out four in four innings.
Walsh will attempt to keep the momentum rolling as they hit the road this weekend to take on Lake Erie. The Cavaliers are scheduled to play twin bills on Saturday and Sunday with first pitch with the Storm on Saturday set for 1 p.m.
