Box Score (XENIA, Ohio) – Top-seeded and nationally ranked No. 14 Grand Valley State handed Walsh its first loss in a 4-0 decision in the final game of Day 3 at the GLIAC Tournament. It was just the third time the Cavaliers (28-25) have been shutout this season and first time in almost two months.
The Lakers (34-16-1) now moves on to Sunday's championship game while the Cavs will sixth-seeded Hillsdale in a de facto semifinal game tomorrow at 11 a.m.
The game went scoreless until Grand Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lakers initially got on the scoreboard on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Villar before a two-run home run by Seth Johnson. They added another run in the next inning on an infield ground out.
Walsh had opportunities to score but left two runners on in the fifth and left the bases loaded in the eighth.
First Team All-GLIAC selection Jason McPeek had another solid day at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a double to increase his hit streak to 20 games. He has gone a combine 8-for-14 during the tournament with four doubles, a triple, and a home run. McPeek has also had multiple hit games in the last four games and nine of his last 11.
Andrew Stalnaker also had a multiple hit game with a pair of singles. Brook Clark and James Thomas added the other hits for the Cavaliers.
