Baseball Falls To Florida Tech To Start Spring Break

Box Score

(LAKE MYRTLE, Fla.) – The Walsh baseball team fell to Florida Tech by a score of 8-2 in its first game in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Saturday afternoon. It was the first loss of the young season for the Cavaliers (2-1), while the Panthers improved to 11-5.

Both of the Cavaliers' runs came in the sixth inning when Andrew Stalnaker went yard with a two-run shot over the fence in left center. Marcus Bobb also scored on the round trip after leading off the frame with a single up the middle.

That made the score 7-2 in favor of Florida Tech, but Walsh was unable to garner any more momentum while the Panthers tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

Frank Frate and Luke Miller pitched well in relief as Frate struck out three in 2.1 innings of work and Miller punched out two in a full eighth inning. Matt Iosue took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season.

Walsh will take on Mary early Sunday morning. First pitch is currently scheduled for 9:30.
