(ASHLAND, Ohio) – In its return to GLIAC action, the Walsh baseball team split with Ashland with a 4-0 win in the opener before a high-scoring 19-13 defeat in the nigh cap. The Cavaliers are no 16-6 overall and 8-2 in the GLIAC, while the Eagles are 11-15 and 4-6 in the same categories.

Matt Iosue pitched a gem in the first game as he went the complete game to improve to 4-1 on the year. He scattered just three hits and struck out four with two walks.

Offensively Walsh scored all of its runs in the final two frames. Luke Caple put the Cavs on the board with a single to right center with the bases loaded to score Tyson Lautanen and Marcus Bobb in the top of the sixth. Andrew Stalnaker followed with an RBI on a fielder's choice to score Eric Conner.

In the final frame, Johnny Knight IV hit a solo home run, his first of the season. He hit another round trip in the second game, but Ashland jumped on top of the Cavs with seven runs in the fourth.

Errors doomed Walsh as eight miscues allowed 13 runs to be unearned.

Walsh's offense still made a valiant attempt to remain in the game and pounded out 17 hits for 13 runs in the defeat. Conner and Knight each had four hits in the second game. Stalnaker added three. In addition to his home run, Knight hit a triple to be just a double shy of a cycle as he went 4-for-4.

MJ Nara took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the year.

Both teams are scheduled for another twin bill tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
