Cavs Swept By Kentucky Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(NASHVILLE) – Walsh was swept by Kentucky Wesleyan in the second day of action in the Music City by scores of 10-3 and 9-7 on Saturday afternoon at E.S. Rose Park. The Cavaliers fell to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the G-MAC, while the Panthers went to 12-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

In the opener, Czech scored all three of Walsh's runs in the top of the eighth with a three-run blast to left field. Cobe Hutchison and Eric Conner also scored on the play after they reached base on a fielding error and a single through the left side, respectively. Justin Hovorka took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year.

Game 2 saw the Cavaliers jump out to a 7-3 lead, but Kentucky Wesleyan came back to win the game on a walk-off grand slam.

Solo homers by Conner and Czech highlighted a 3-0 first inning for the Cavaliers as they opened up the game with a 4-0 lead after they added another in the second. After a three-run homer by Wesleyan in the bottom of the second, Walsh added three more in the top of the fifth thinks a triple by Brenden Spaulding, a single to left by Tim Dunbar, and a double to right center by Spencer Helwig.

However the long ball was also kind to Kentucky Wesleyan as they came back with a solo shot in the sixth before the grand slam in the seventh. Nik Barkdull took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year.

Czech was impressive from the plate as he went a combined 5-for-8 on the day with four RBI and three runs scored. Spaulding and Dunbar both registered three hits in the second game while Conner also had a three-hit day.

The Cavs will return to action against a familiar foe in Ashland on Tuesday as the teams square off against each other for a single nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. The two teams met back on March 9 with the Cavs taking an 11-7 win in the penultimate game of their spring break in Florida.
