Men's and Women's Track off to Solid Start in the New Year

(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) - The men's and women's track teams competeted in the Youngstown State Invitational earlier this afternoon, which featured athletes from 29 schools. 

Walsh made it's presence known in the one mile race as Andra Lehotay won the event for the women with a time of 4:58.58 and Jacob Caniford placed second on the men's side with a time of 4:19.14. 

Other top ten finishes for the women include Jetaiya Smith's sixth place finish in the women's 400m dash, running a 58.96 and Clare Robertson's sixth place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 10:22.40. For the men, Lane Knoch posted a fifth place finish in the men's 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.16.

In the field Jacob Ott placed sixth in the men's weight throw with a throw of 16.48m and Bucyrus Palo placed tenth with a throw of 15.71m. In the men's shot put James Miller placed ninth with a throw of 15.28m. Morissa Mallory recorded a tenth place finish in the women's shot put with a throw of 11.95m. Rounding out the top ten finishes of the day was Varney Pelima with an 8th place finish in the men's triple jump, recording a jump of 13.34m.
