Box Score SAINT LEO, Florida - The Walsh Cavaliers men's basketball team opened the two game weekend in Florida on the wrong foot as they were defeated 64-57 by Saint Leo on Friday (Dec. 20) evening.
Walsh fell to 8-2 on the season, snapping their two-game win streak in the process.
In a game that was focused on defense with a low-scoring battle, the lead changed hands ten times with one tie in the game.
JT Shumate led the Cavaliers with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Christian Montague scored nine points before he fouled out and Alphonso Baity continued to score points off the bench with a total of nine. He went 5-of-5 from the free throw line and had four rebounds. Darryl Straughter made two three pointers in an eight-point effort.
Walsh grabbed 40 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards leading to 13 second chance points. The Cavaliers outscored the Lions 24-4 in the paint throughout the game.
The weekend in the Sunshine State will resume Saturday (Dec. 21) in Lakeland, Florida at Southeastern. Tipoff with the Fire is set for 2:00 PM.
