KENT, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers men's indoor track and field team competed in one final event before the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships next weekend as they took part in the Kent State Tune Up on Saturday (Feb. 16).
"Saturday's meet was a very good tune-up meet for both teams heading into our conference meet this coming Friday and Saturday," said head coach Rob Mizicko. "We saw a lot of personal bests yesterday, which is right on par to where we want to be now within our training cycles. We are very much looking forward to the conference meet."
One school record and one conference record was broken on the men's side at Kent State.
Josh Conrad broke the G-MAC record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.38 as he won the event.
After setting the school record in the 60-meter hurdles earlier this season, Lane Knoch tied his own school record as he ran a 8.16 to finish first.
Three Cavalier runners placed in the top eight for the mile as Jacob Kernell (4:13.86) won the race. Jacob Caniford (4:18.45) and Noah Murray (4:22.55) finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
Beau Boyden (8:50.07) and Jacob Turner (8:51.95) finished back-to-back in the 3000-meter run for sixth and seventh place.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Knoch, Conrad, Chandler Wilhelm and Michael Contrucci combined to run a 3:23.90 for a third place finish.
Varney Pelima finished seventh in both the high jump (1.89 meters) and triple jump (13.87 meters).
James Miller was eighth in the shot put, throwing 16.68 meters.
The team will head to Findlay for the Great Midwest Championships on Friday (Feb. 22) and Saturday (Feb. 23).
