FINDLAY, Ohio – The Walsh men and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships on Friday (Feb. 22) and Saturday (Feb. 23), held at the University of Findlay.
For the men, 16 athletes and team finished in the top eight and four of them finished on the podium.
"We are extremely proud of our team's efforts and performances today and this weekend," said head coach Rob Mizicko. "The goal is always to compete at the highest level in the conference meet and that happened across the board."
The Cavaliers were sixth with 60 points, behind 2019 indoor champs Tiffin.
Walsh had two athletes place in the heptathlon, with Joel Berger finishing fourth (4,218 points) and Conner Hluch placing sixth (4,119 points).
Two Cavaliers placed in the 5000-meter run as Noah Murray and Jacob Turner finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Murray ran a 15:20.16 while Turner finished with a time of 15:25.27.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Lane Knoch qualified for the finals with a NCAA D2 provo time of 8.17 seconds. In the finals, Knoch set his own school record and finished second, running an 8.12, also a NCAA D2 Provo time.
The Distance Medley team of Jacob Caniford, Chandler Wilhelm, Josh Conrad and Jacob Kernell reached the podium in third with a time of 10:29.63.
Caniford finished sixth in the mile with a final time of 4:18.93.
Wilhelm was fourth in the 800-meter run as he came across the line with a time of 1:56.62.
The 3000-meter run saw two Cavaliers place in the top eight. Kernell was third with a time of 8:35.59 and Murray was seventh, running an 8:43.79 for his time.
Berger was eighth in the pole vault, reaching a height of 4.23 meters.
Varney Pelima placed in two jumping events as he finished third in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump. He cleared 1.89 meters in the high jump, for fifth overall. In the triple jump, he had a jump of 14.15 meters for third overall.
Two athletes finished in the top eight for the men's shot put. James Miller was seventh and Jacob Ott was eighth in the final standings. Miller threw a D2 provo mark of 16.25 meters while Ott had a top throw of 15.60 meters.
Ronald Robinson was seventh in the triple jump, with a jump of 13.09 meters.
