NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Walsh Cavaliers baseball team kicked off Great Midwest action with a four game series against the Alderson Broaddus Battlers on Friday (March 15) and Saturday (March 16) at Biery Stadium.

The teams split each day, ending the series with two wins each.

GAME ONE

After the game was tied 3-3 after five innings, the Battlers scored five runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to take a 12-5 lead. Walsh rallied with four runs in the ninth but Alderson Broaddus won the opener 13-9.

Avery Janning, Eric Conner and Bailey Mosley each had two hits in the opener as Janning and Conner scored two runs each. Cam Kaiser had a three-run homerun in a pinch-hit at-bat in the ninth inning.

Nick Bebout allowed three runs in four innings. Tyler Giesige threw two scoreless innings in relief.

GAME TWO

Walsh scored early and often in the second game, scoring three runs in each of the three innings plus a six-run fourth inning, taking a 15-1 lead after four innings. The Cavaliers led 15-4 before darkness came and suspended the game until Saturday (March 16) morning. Walsh added two more runs, winning the game 17-4.

Andrew Czech had a three-for-four game where he hit three homeruns, scored four runs and plated eight runs. He had a three-run homerun in the second inning, a two-run bomb in the third and a second three-run dinger in the fourth frame. Brendan Spaulding added a three-run homerun of his own in the first inning. Kaiser had his second homerun "of the day" in the fifth inning deep into the left center field greenspace.

Anthony Krokos pitched five innings with four runs allowed. Nik Barkdull blanked the Battlers with two perfect frames in relief once the game resumed.

GAME THREE

Walsh scored two runs on errors and Cobe Hutchison added a RBI single as the Cavaliers fell 5-3 in game one on Saturday (March 16). Alderson Broaddus scored five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.

Five different players accounted for a hit as Czech, Mosley, Janning, Kaiser and Hutchison each had a knock.

GAME FOUR

Alec Graves had a two-run double and Mosley plated a run with an RBI single, all a part of a three-run fifth inning as Walsh took a 3-1 advantage. The Battlers tied the game with two in the seventh, forcing extra-innings. In the bottom of the 12^th, Spaulding ended the game with a RBI double down the left field line, scoring Czech. Walsh won the series finale 4-3 in 12 innings. 

Spaulding had two hits in the game, including the game-winner as the Cavaliers totaled seven hits.

Brant Alazaus threw a gem as he went six innings with two runs allowed on five hits. He walked one and fanned six batters. Ben Bulchik tossed six innings of relief ball with one run allowed on one hits. He walked one and struck out ten batters.

The Cavaliers will travel to Ashland for a single game on Tuesday (March 19) at 3:00 PM.
