GAME ONE
In a pitchers duel, Walsh fell 2-0 to Seton Hill in the opening game of the doubleheader. The Griffins scored the only two runs in the second inning and held on the rest of the way.
Drew Saunier pitched five strong innings with two runs (one earned). He allowed six hits (one extra base hit) and fanned six batters in a tough luck loss. Josh Ferry struck out one batter in one inning of relief.
Joey Holiga had two doubles while Cam Kaiser added two singles.
GAME TWO
Walsh used a furious comeback in the nightcap, splitting the doubleheader with a 10-6 win in game two. Seton Hill scored two runs in each of the first two frames, leading 4-0 after two innings. In the sixth inning, Holiga doubled home Cobe Hutchison, who walked as the leadoff hitter. The Griffins added a run in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-1 lead. With six outs to work with, the Cavaliers began to rally. Walsh loaded the bases with a walk, double and a single. Brenden Spaulding lined a two-run single to center field, cutting the lead to 6-3. Avery Janning followed with a RBI single as a three-run eighth inning pulled the Cavaliers within two, 6-4. Against the Seton Hill closer, the game wasn't over yet. Jacob Beachy doubled and Alec Graves singled, putting two runners on base. Beachy scored on a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Hutchison. After a single, Spaulding lifted a three-run home run to left field. Two batters later, Alec DeBruler drilled a two-run homer to left field as Walsh led 10-6 after nine runs in the final two innings.
Dylan Corsi and MJ Nara each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Cavaliers compiled 13 hits with five guys having two-hit games. Spaulding had two hits with five RBI. Holiga scored twice while reaching base three times (two hits and a walk). Janning, Beachy and DeBruler all had games with two hits. Hutchison scored three runs in the second game.
Walsh will face California (Pa.) this weekend in a four game series at Wild Things Park, beginning on Saturday (Feb. 29) at 12:00 PM.
