Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's basketball team put on a back-and-forth show on Sunday (Jan. 10) afternoon at Alumni Arena for the limited number of spectators in attendance. The Cavaliers and the Findlay Oilers traded blows before the Oilers were able to defeat the Cavaliers 92-84 in overtime.

The short story: In a game that featured 12 lead changes and seven ties, Walsh and Findlay went at it for 45 minutes through an overtime period. After the first quarter, Findlay used a 10-0 run to take the lead and expand on a nine-point lead, 31-22 with 7:03 left in the first half. Walsh answered back with a 16-3 run through halftime as they took a 38-34 lead at the break. The Cavaliers scored the first eight points of the third quarter and would lead by as many as 17, 61-44 with 2:30 to go in the third period. Findlay used a 14-3 run to cut the lead to six in the fourth quarter. Findlay tied the game with 1:45 left in regulation. Payton Pooler and Megan Ball gave the Cavaliers the lead in the final 90 seconds but the Oilers forced overtime. Findlay outscored the Cavaliers 15-7 in overtime for the win.
OPENING TIP
- Mayci Sales led the Cavaliers scorers with 25 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. She also had four assists and two steals. Sales was ten-of-17 from the floor and five-of-seven from the free throw line.
- Megan Ball set career-highs in points, rebounds and minutes after the junior tallied 23 points and nine rebounds in 43 minutes of play. Ball completed nine-of-15 field goals, two three pointers and three of her four free throw attempts.
- Abby Hickey made her first collegiate start, scoring 13 points with five rebounds. Hickey accounted for a pair of threes and three free throws.
- Lexie Scarton had another double-double with 12 points and a career-high ten assists along with three steals.
- Payton Pooler came up with two clutch three pointers in the final two periods (including overtime) as she ended with seven points.
THE DIFFERENCE
- Walsh was outrebounded on the glass, 57-44 and 21-14 on the offensive side.
- Over the final two periods, Walsh was outscored 43-20.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS
- Walsh shot 39.5% (30-76) from the floor compared to 42.5% (34-80) for Findlay. Walsh had seven threes while the Oilers only made one in the game (coming in the 1st quarter).
- The Cavaliers had 18 assists, the second most in a game this season.
- There was a six free throw difference between the two teams. Walsh was 17-of-26 from the line with Findlay shooting 23-of-32 overall.
NOTABLE
- This was Walsh's first game in overtime since November 10, 2018 against Wisconsin-Parkside.
- Mayci Sales now has the 10th spot on the all-time scoring list, surpassing Beth Sternberg as Sales has compiled 1,267 career points.
- After Scarton's ten assist day, that is the first time since November 2011, where a Walsh player was above ten assists.
