Box Score HILLSDALE, Michigan - The Walsh Cavaliers women's basketball team improved to 4-2 on the season with the first win of 2021 on Friday (Jan. 8) night in Michigan. The Cavaliers defeated the Hillsdale Chargers 63-54 in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup, snapping the two-game losing streak for the Cavaliers.

The short story: Walsh jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game before Hillsdale answered with a 12-4 run to take the lead. After Hillsdale led 12-11, the Cavaliers regained the lead and never looked back. A 9-0 run in the second quarter gave the Cavaliers a 13-point advantage (their largest lead of the night). Hillsdale got within two points but Walsh kept the Chargers away for the win.
OPENING TIP
- Mayci Sales earned her fourth double-double of the year and 19th of her career on Friday. Sales scored 13 points with 12 rebounds in 31 minutes.
- Sha Carter added 14 points on only four field goals and six free throws shooting. She had seven rebounds along with three assists and one block.
- Kimmie Borck put up a team-high 15 points, including three three pointers as well as five rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Lexie Scarton put together a stat line of seven points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
- Megan Ball gave an effort of nine points and seven rebounds.

- Walsh outrebounded Hillsdale 50-34, including 19 offensive rebounds to eight for the Chargers.

- Walsh shot 34.8% (24-69) from the floor compared to 33.% (19-57) for Hillsdale. Both teams made six three pointers and shot 30% or less from deep.
- The Cavaliers scored 34 points in the paint, scoring 54% of their points from the key.
- After grabbing 19 offensive rebounds, the Cavs tallied 14 second chance points.
NOTABLE
- With 19 offensive rebounds, the Cavaliers reached a mark that they hadn't reached since 11/21/18 against Slippery Rock (20 offensive rebounds). Sales, Scarton and Ball all had four offensive rebounds.
- Mayci Sales jumped three spots to 11th all-time, surpassing Jessie Miller, Ingrid Brainard and Joy Cornachione on the all-time scoring list. With 1,241 career points, she is seven points from taking tenth all-time.
