Women's Soccer Nets Road Three Points at KWC, 4-3

OWENSBORO, Kentucky - The Walsh Cavaliers women's soccer team made the best of the Monday (Oct. 11) makeup game at Kentucky Wesleyan as they will return to North Canton with a key three points in the G-MAC standings. The Cavaliers were victorious 4-3 at Panther Stadium as they improved to 3-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the G-MAC.

With the win, Walsh sits at ten points and now holds the fifth spot in the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Walsh started off fast with a goal 96 seconds into the game. Miriam Szijarto connected with Sabrina Ortenzi for a goal as Walsh led 1-0 on Ortenzi's fourth goal of the year. 
  • Kentucky Wesleyan knotted the score at one less than a minute later on a goal by Madisyn Hunt (assisted by Chloe Hinchcliffe).
  • Faith Estes made it 2-1 in the seventh minute on an assist from Maddie Malinowski
  • In the 23rd minute, Meghan Creech increased the lead to 3-1 with an assist to Hannah Stein.
  • Walsh led 3-1 until Kentucky Wesleyan got two goals from Hunt in the 67th and 71st minutes as the game was tied at three. 
  • Szijarto tallied the game-winner in the 75th minute off an pass from Megan Anderson as Walsh took a 4-3 lead for the final. 

FOR THE CAVALIERS:

  • Walsh finished with 18 shots with six on goal in the contest.
  • Nine different players took shots with Estes taking five shots, a team-high. 
  • Four different players scored goals with four different assists. 
  • Romina Parraguez faced 16 shots with four shots on target and one save. 

FOR THE PANTHERS:

  • Kentucky Wesleyan totaled 16 shots overall and had four on goal throughout the afternoon.
  • Hunt scored three goals for a hat trick on four shots. 
  • Natalie Hinchcliffe took the most shots for the Panthers at six. 
  • Reegan Garrity made two saves with six shots on goal.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cavs will head to Columbus on Thursday (Oct. 14) for a battle with the Ohio Dominican Panthers, beginning at 7:30 PM.
