Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Missouri- The Walsh Cavaliers opened up the 2021-2022 season at the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover, hosted by USML. The Cavs went 1-1 over the weekend.
Saturday (November 13th) vs. University Missouri- St. Louis (L, 80-76)
- The Cavaliers and Tritons went wire-to-wire Saturday evening as there were seven lead changes throughout competition
- #21 Garrison Keeslar posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds
- Graduate Guard Darryl Straughter and newcomer Owen Hazelbaker also chipped in double-digit points
- Straughter poured in 19 points, including five from three-point range
- In his first game as a Cavalier, Hazelbaker scored 11 points, shooting 45% from the field
- The Cavalier defense forced the Tritons to 14 turnovers, as Garrison Keeslar and Zakai Alexander each had two steals a piece
- Despite being tied 64-64 with five minutes left in regulation, USML went on a 5-0 run before Darryl Straughter put Walsh within three (69-66) with 2:24 remaining
- USML held on to their lead for the remainder of play, scoring 11 additional points for a final score of 80-76
Sunday (November 14th) vs. Maryville University (W, 81-73)
- Walsh earned their first win of the season Sunday, November 14th against the Maryville University Saints. Walsh had four players scoring in double-digits, with freshman Quintin Toles leading the way with 22 points.
- The Cavs led by 14 at the half, shooting 55.9% from the field
- Walsh proved dominant in the second half of play as they led by as much as 15 with 10:06 remaining
- #12 Caleb Canter dished out team-high four assists, while also adding 17 points and eight rebounds for the Cavaliers
- Garrison Keeslar chipped in double digit points for the second consecutive game at 15 on the day
- Darryl Straughter poured in 10 additional points to make the final score 80-73
