Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio - Nearly 13 days after the series began, the Walsh Cavaliers baseball team concluded the home series with the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Wednesday (April 20) afternoon.
Due to weather, the long-awaited series finale was played at Donges Field in Ashland. Walsh won the series finale by a final score of 5-3 in a crisp 1:58.
Walsh and Ohio Dominican were scoreless until the fourth inning when ODU scored twice against Walsh starter Nick Lallathin on a pair of RBI singles.
The Cavaliers answered back with a three-run fourth on four hits. Ben Lefebvre laid down a perfect bunt single down the third base line and moved to second on a wild pitch. Brady Maciak singled home Lefebvre. After a single and a passed ball moved runners into scoring position, Jacob Beachy doubled home two runs as Walsh took the 3-2 lead.
Ohio Dominican tied the game with a RBI single in the fifth inning.
Cam Hollobaugh and Austin Marko singled in the sixth inning to put two runners on base. Jared Lieberman singled home Hollobaugh and Andrew Morse singled home Marko for a 5-3 Walsh lead.
The 5-3 lead stood through the final three innings as Walsh won the series finale.
Walsh totaled 11 hits as Maciak, Lefebvre and Morse all had two hits each. Seven of the nine starters had a hit in the game.
Lallathin grinded through five innings with three runs allowed (two earned) on four hits. He walked one and struck out three. The bullpen trio of Caleb Canter, Cole Brogan and Zach Thompson went four perfect innings. Canter tallied one scoreless sixth inning with Brogan following in the seventh and eighth. Thompson got his third save with a blank ninth inning.
Walsh heads to Findlay on Saturday (April 23) and Sunday (April 24) for an important G-MAC series.
