Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers baseball team shook off a close weekend with the #12 Trevecca Nazarene Trojans with a non-conference matchup with #18 Slippery Rock on Monday (May 2) at Biery Stadium.
Behind five home runs, Walsh picked up a win over the Rock 8-7 to improve to 22-20 overall.
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three homeruns between the second and third innings.
Jacob Beachy went deep to lead off the fourth inning, a solo blast to left field.
One inning later, Andrew Morse led off with a double to right field before Shea Simmer coaxed a walk off of starter Eoin Rossman. Matt McGrath drilled a three-run shot to left-center field. Walsh tied the game at four.
Just like the fourth inning, Austin Marko delivered a leadoff home run to left-center field as Walsh takes a 5-4 lead. Cam Kaiser followed with a single, went to third on a pair of groundouts and scored on a RBI double by Simmer.
In the seventh inning, Joey Holiga led off the frame with a blast to left-center field. Two batters laters, Beachy went deep for his second blast of the day. Walsh led 8-4 after seven innings.
The Rock closed the gap to 8-7 in the top of the ninth but the Cavaliers closed the door with the go-ahead run at second base.
Walsh had 11 hits in the game, with eight extra-base hits. Simmer, Beachy and Marko had multi-hit games, as two of the three had multi extra-base hit games.
Cam Lingle (2.1 IP), Caleb Canter (1 IP), Jordan Shearer (1 IP) and Cam Hollobaugh (1 IP) combined for 5.1 innings of shutout ball before Slippery Rock got three in the ninth.
Walsh finishes the regular season with their playoff lives on the line on Friday (May 6) and Saturday (May 7) against Lake Erie.
