Box Score (ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Walsh dropped its opening game of the season by a 7-6 count to Roberts Wesleyan today in upstate New York. The Cavaliers battled the Redhawks (2-4) close for the duration of the game, but ran out of time.
The Cavs opened up the game with the first two goals on shots by Nicholas Castorf (So., Holbrook, NY/Sachem) and Bryan Crim (So., Reading, PA/Exeter). Roberts Wesleyan then caught fire and scored the next six goals over the course of three quarters.
Walsh's dry spell on offense ended as Alex Hudgens (So., South Lyon, OH/Munroe Falls) scored on an assist from Castorf at 8:47 of the third quarter. Castorf then cut the deficit to two goals on an unassisted score of his own with 5:55 left to go in the period.
The Redhawks then scored what ended up as the game-winning goal at the 9:09 mark of the fourth frame. Crim scored the final two goals for the Cavs to close out the scoring.
Dylan Ciolino (So., Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) made 12 saves on 33 shots faced on the day.
The Cavs return to action against Florida Tech in their home opener this Saturday. Face-off is currently scheduled for noon.
