Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The men's lacrosse team cruised to a victory over visiting Franciscan in a dominating 19-5 decision at Vasco Field on a chilly Tuesday evening. The Cavaliers (3-9) scored seven goals in the opening quarter and didn't look back in their route of the Barons (0-13).
Walsh dominated almost all facets of the game as it won all but two face-offs and had a 39-14 ground ball advantage. Franciscan did score three goals in the second, but Walsh tallied five during that time and led 12-3 at halfitime.
On the Offensive end, Greg Tonge (Fr., Petoskey, MI/HS) had a big day with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists. Three of those came in a 5-0 third quarter. Collin Trankel (Fr., Apple Valley, MN/HS) also played well with one goal and five assists.
Defensively the Cavaliers were once again paced by Mark Guzik (So., Dublin, OH/Coffman) with four ground balls and four caused turnovers. Ryan Rafac (Fr., Toledo, OH/St. Johns) was key in the possession game as he had six ground balls and two caused turnovers in addition to winning 16-of-18 face-offs.
Between the pipes, Austin Herbert (Fr., Milford, MI/Lakeland) picked up the first win of his collegiate career with four saves on 21 shots faced.
Walsh now has a tough task ahead of it for the final game of the season. The Cavaliers entertain nationally ranked No. 3 Lake Erie in ECAC action. Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
