Box Score (NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The final result may have shown that Walsh lost the No. 3 Lake Erie 13-6 on Friday afternoon, but the overall contest was much closer than the score indicated. The Cavaliers (3-10, 1-6) and Storm (12-1, 6-1) shut each other out in the first quarter and allowed just one goal each in the second in a first half that resembled a soccer score.
LEC found the back of the net first with a strike by Mitchell Stokes at 10:53 in the second before Bryan Crim (So., Reading, PA/Exeter) score the first of an outstanding five goals thanks to an assist from Ryan Martin (Fr., Oswego, NY/HS). That scored tied the game with 8:31 to go in the half, but neither squad could score again until the second half.
Goals were abundant in the back end of the game. Lake Erie opened up the third with five of the first six goals, but Crim scored again with seven seconds left to cut the Walsh deficit to 6-3.
Just under two minutes into the fourth frame, Crim assisted Nicholas Castorf (So., Holbrook, NY/Sachem) to bring the Cavs within two at 6-4, but the Storm rallied for six consecutive goals to take control of the game.
Dylan Ciolino (So., Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) was gave an incredible show between the pipes as he came up with 15 saves in the game and allowed 11 of Lake Erie's 13 goals. Ciolino had nine saves in the first half and was in double digits early in the third.
Walsh's season is now complete while Lake Erie moves on to play Queens (N.C.) before with hopes of making the eight-team national tournament.
