Box Score (SYLVANIA, Ohio) – You couldn't have scripted a more exciting finish for the opening game of the season as Walsh came from behind to defeat Lourdes on the road by a score of 4-3 Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers trailed the Gray Wolves (1-1) 3-1 after 32 minutes of play, but two goals in the final 11 minutes gave Walsh the come-from-behind victory.
Lucas Dunlap (Sr., 6-1, Coschocton, Ohio/HS) scored the game winner as he headed the ball on a cross from Michael Saddler (So., 5-8, Elyria, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) on a free kick with 3:39 to go. What made the comeback even more impressive was that Walsh was down to 10 men on the field after Dan Kenner was sent off with a red card in the 82nd minute.
Just two minute prior, Bailey Moody (Jr., 6-1, Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Midpark) scored the equalizer on the assist from Dillon Parsons (Sr., 5-9, Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban). Moody was able to take the pass at the left side of the box and send it to the right corner to notch the game up at 3-3.
The first half was about as wild as the second half as Lourdes took the early lead with a goal just 84 seconds in. Walsh was able to tie the game as Jordan Prescod (Fr., 6-1, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada/St. Marcellinus) scored on an assist from Ryan Baker (Jr., 5-10, Birmingham, England/The Friary School) at 16:18.
The Gray Wolves regained the lead in the 20th minute as Judah Goodridge and Aaron Davis paired together on a goal. They increased that lead to 3-1 on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
However, Walsh was able to get a penalty kick of its own and Baker found the back of the net just 21 seconds before halftime.
Tom Jackson (Fr., 6-2, Sheffield, England/Dinnington Comprehensive) picked up the win in goal after he played the entire second half.
The Cavs now set their sights on Seton Hill in a Labor Day road game non-conference clash. Kick-off with the Griffins is set for 4 p.m.
